Emma Creighton Hopson (b. 1979) is a Savannah, GA based artist and educator. She earned a Master of Fine Arts in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and subsequently joined the institution's faculty. Her intimate images explore themes of identity and time as they relate to relationships and the social landscape. She works primarily with a view camera as a way to connect with the history and craft of photography and she embraces the medium’s ability to affect perception.

Selections from her series Wish You Were Here You Are (2021) have been exhibited at Photo London, Atlanta Contemporary, Contact Photo Festival, The Do Good Fund, and Filter Photo among other venues. This series rejects patriarchal idealizations of the maternal by visualizing the nuances of being a mother. Wish You Were Here You Are also reflects on the illusory condition of photography and the disappearance of physical photographs.

Hopson was recognized as a Critical Mass finalist in 2021 and 2022 and received the Collinsworth Emerging Photographer Acquisition Fund Award in 2022 via The Do Good Fund.

A solo exhibition for the artist’s most recent, ongoing photographic series, First Light, is currently on view at Montag Gallery. You can view more information about the exhibition here.
